United States

The United States has been gripped by many different protests in 2019. Two main types of protests have erupted in the U.S. against big corporations and against the government. Protesters have taken to striking against corporations such as Amazon on Prime Day and General Automotive. While striking has been the main choice of protest tactics against big corporations in the U.S., the workers have also gathered into marches that swept across many big U.S. cities. Amazon workers staged a strike on Prime Day, the most lucrative day every year for the company, to protest the low wages and terrible working conditions for warehouse workers. In a similar vein The General Automotive sector of the United Auto Workers have been on strike for close to a month to protest the conditions of their employment, contract negotiations have largely centered around the question of health benefits, wages, and job security. Protests against the current political administration and their policy decisions have erupted around the country in 2019. One of the bigger protests to happen in response to new policies was the marches against restrictive abortion bans that took place across most states, with many protesters calling it a step back for women’s rights in the country. There have also been protests condemning the actions of the administration on their policies of immigration. Marches have occurred in response to the uptake in deportations and the inhumane conditions of border detention facilities.
